Dance:Detroit Institute of Arts

Dance! American Art 1830-1960 captures dance in all its forms-from carefree to choreographed performance-with art that celebrates our need to move to the music.

If you’ve ever cut loose at a wedding, tapped your toes to the radio or busted a move at a backyard party, you know the power of movement. Dance! American Art 1830–1960 captures dance in all its forms—from carefree to choreographed performance—with art that celebrates our need to move to the music. See 90 works from famed American artists, including John Singer Sargent, Mary Cassatt, Harlem Renaissance stars and artists who shaped the aesthetics of modern dance, among them Isamu Noguchi, Jasper Johns and Andy Warhol. Join the dance at the DIA. #JoinTheDance
