Visit LEGOLAND Discovery Center Michigan

We  had the privilege of attending a sneak peek of LEGOLAND Discovery Center Michigan – the newest attraction at Great Lakes Crossing. Let me tell you, they did not disappoint! This place is a dream come true for kids from 3 -10 years old.

Upon entrance, children can take a trip through Kingdom Quest where they’re job is to fearlessly rescue a princess by slaying skeleton clad rascals from atop their very own chariot in Legoland’s version of Laser Tag. And yes, it’s fun for adults too.

If you have tots in tow, your next stop should be to the Lego Duplo Farm. This is a special area specifically geared toward 2-5 year olds. It boasts larger than life legos – at least 15 times larger than those you can buy in the store. Colorful and safe this area provides endless delight and fuel for the imaginations of even the smallest Lego enthusiast.

Just next door at Olivia’s House, children can build among life-size Lego friends named Stephany, Andrea, Emma and Mia. With piles of pastel legos girls can build to their hearts content and even “make” their own cupcakes in this bake shop themed exhibit – Yum!

Do you know someone who would want to try their hand at Lego Racing?  Kids and adults alike can build racers to their hearts content – with two, four or even six wheels.  Then, push the button at the starting line and see whose creation is ready for the Daytona 500! Especially here, imaginations run wild!

We’ve all heard of the Lego Movie and know it was a big hit, but LEGOLAND Discovery Center Michigan has its own theatre and shows its own mini movie. It’s a fun and heart pounding adventure to help the lions of Chima where a bird flys and airplane and objects jump out at you in stunning 4D! Be prepared for some other interactive surprises in the theatre that you’ll want to experience for yourself.

After sitting in the theatre, you may want to take the opportunity to let the kids run off some energy in one of the giant play-scapes. Stepping into the role of either firefighter or construction worker they can run, jump and climb the day away.

Next door you’ll find party rooms. Here kids can share their birthday and other celebrations with friends and family alike. And with capacity for 20 – 24 party-goers your child’s special day will be one for the books! Come share the magic with as many as you can.

Subsequently you’ll find Model Builder Academy. Here, classes are offered wherein small groups of Lego fans can learn the techniques for building specific creations. This is an instructor led course where children learn to build models step-by-step. Is a tall friend sitting in front of you? Don’t worry, your instructor will build the model on a projector connected to televisions so that you can see from anywhere you sit! Everyone has their own workstation complete with the needed materials and several models are displayed – like cats, eagles and rocket ships – for further inspiration.

Want to learn more about Legos? Head to the interactive factory tour where you can create your own lego person and get a behind the scenes look at how your favorite toy is molded and colored. There’s a real science to it!

Let’s be honest, Legos can be a fun toy for adults as well, but if thus far you haven’ t unleashed the child inside of  you and played right alongside those who came with you then this is the moment you’ve been waiting for. You’ve reached Mini Land and you won’t be able to contain your excitement! Mini land is a cityscape of Detroit complete with 50 its best attractions such as The Detroit Princess, The Fox Theatre, Ford Field, Tigers Stadium, The Royal Tire, Hitsville USA, the Detroit Airport and many more. I would have never imagined such intricate things could be made entirely from Legos and it is fantastic! And in true Lego fashion even Mini Land is interactive, so grab a joy stick or push a button and see how you can bring Detroit to life.

Phew! Believe it or not all of these attractions were only on the outskirts of LEGOLAND Discovery Center Michigan !  In the center of the venue there is a giant café-to fill hungry bellies after all of that building and exploring; more Lego pits for whenever inspiration strikes; a gigantic singing clock – yes, again, made entirely of Legos; and yet another ride to keep the little ones bodies busy and their imaginations going strong.

You’ll be one of the lucky ones if you can make it out the door without spending a ton at the LEGOLAND Discovery Center Michigan Lego Store. The possibilities are endless from choosing your own multicolored Legos, to buying a new kit, to choosing new lego people! The opportunities for creativity can fit any budget.

LEGOLAND Discovery Center Michigan at Great Lakes Crossing is a sight to behold – and the only one of its kind in Michigan. It is colorful and kid-friendly, engaging, and the staff are extremely helpful. Not to mention music plays everywhere and even the bathrooms hint toward the Lego theme. I mean the bathrooms….? these people thought of EVERYTHING! Don’t miss out on this gem that will excite the child as well as the child at heart. And don’t forget to tell a teacher they can even accommodate fieldtrips.
